New Goal

Let me start this post with this: Keep in mind, I am NO photographer.
Now, with that said, I've decided I want to start taking more pictures. Not just of anything and everything, but of the daily/weekly things we do for fun or that might document memories worth keeping. I often find myself reading friends' blogs and seeing all of the pictures they post and thinking, "We NEVER take pictures, but that's because there isn't anything going on in our lives that would require picture-taking."

This is a lie.

Why wouldn't the first year of our marriage be something I'd want to document? Why would I not want a picture of the look on Travis' face the first time he saw Wesley on the ultrasound screen? Or when we found out we're pregnant? Or the first time he sees Wesley when he is born? Or even my face during that first look?... Or when we have get-togethers with our friends from church? Or when we get new missionaries, and when our missionaries get transferred? (I'm not being a creeper, entirely. Travis and I are ward missionaries so we get to know the missionaries in our ward pretty well.) The point is these seeming insignificant things are what are shaping who we are becoming.

Also, I figure that if I make it a habit now to take pictures and document seemingly small events in our lives, then it won't be hard for me to do this when our children are around. Sometimes I get so sad when I realize that there aren't a lot of pictures of me as a kid. Don't get me wrong, I took enough pictures for my Myspace page in middle school that I have plenty of the awkward years. But I wish I had more pictures of me as a little kid. I wish Travis did too. I wish my parents did, also. I love seeing old pictures of the people I love in their younger years and I feel like my kids will too.

Sooooo my goal is to start taking more pictures. And also to write down why they are significant. Maybe I'll get them printed and put them in an album with their stories on the back....
