Christmas with a Baby
This year was obviously Wesley's first Christmas. It was amazing! We were we given way too many gifts, spoiled rotten and stuffed with yummy foods and treats. More importantly, we were blessed in so many wonderful ways. This year we got to spend Christmas with my side of the family. We spent Christmas eve at my uncle Michael's house in Georgetown with my parents, siblings, grandparents, uncle, and Lawrence. It was wonderful and we really enjoyed each other's company. The presents were great, but the true gift was the joy felt from the true meaning of Christmas.
I started to recognize it on our way back to San Antonio on Christmas Eve. We were about 30 min outside of Georgetown when we had to pull over. I was feeding Wesley in his carseat when I smelled his poopy diaper. I lifted his leg and saw that he was about to explode out of his diaper. We quickly pulled over and I changed him before there was any real damage. As I stood in the cold, under the sprinkles of rain, I couldn't help but laugh at the situation. A half naked baby peeing on the back seat. Cold rain soaking my back as I tried to prevent poop from spilling out of his diaper as I dodged the pee stream. The ironic smirk on my 8 week old's face. It all could have been very frustrating.
But it wasn't.
It was joyful.
It was funny.
It was memorable.
Priceless. Except not.
You see, without the Atonement, without the Fall, without the Plan of Salvation, I wouldnt know true happiness, joy even. I couldn't appreciate those small moments when as a parent you get to see and feel a small glimpse of how our Heavenly Father feels about His children. About us. As I lay here in bed typing this, I can hear my sweet baby snorting in his sleep. He's laughing at something. Maybe a dream. Probably gas. Hopefully he's dreaming of heaven. I'm so grateful for this Christmas season. I'm so grateful that I'm given this wonderful time of year as a reminder to ponder the birth, life and mission of our Savior Jesus Christ. I'm so grateful for his life, his sacrifice, his example, his Atonement. I'm so grateful for the blessings he has given me. My loving husband. My selfless parents. My awesome siblings. My fabulous inlaws- both parents, siblings, spouses and their families. My sweet baby Wesley.
Christmas with a baby. It's been my favorite Christmas so far :)
