Two Unfortunate Trips to the Hospital

Our crazy, and at times scary, weekend started Friday afternoon. We were getting ready to leave the house when we noticed that Wesley was being abnormally fussy. Travis quickly noticed he had leaked out of his diaper and went to change him. That's when he noticed diarrhea and what looked like a bug bite that Wesley was having an allergic reaction to. We rushed him to the ER. Within an hour and a half we were on our way home. (quick for the ER huh?) The doctor said that what he actually had was a fungal infection and the swelling that we noticed was actually an inguinal hernia. We were referred to a surgeon and sent on our way home with a few things to watch out for. The next day was gruesome. We were so scared of complications occurring before we met with a surgeon and on top of that Wesley's rash and diarrhea were getting worse. After several phone conversations with an on-call nurse, we were advised to go back to the ER to have them look at everything again. On Saturday at 9:30pm we went in. We were seen pretty quickly and by midnight we were admitted with a slightly different diagnosis. Wesley had a stomach bug that was causing the diarrhea, which was causing the fungal infection, which was causing a severe rash and a lot of pain. The hernia needed to be operated on ASAP and they wanted to keep him overnight for observation and to try and clear up the rash and to flush out the bug before surgery. They ended up performing the surgery on Monday morning. The surgeon informed us that they would be going in on both sides because the likelihood of the other side having a hernia was very high if they repaired one side. It turned out he had a massive hernia on the right side and a smaller one on the left side. We're so grateful for the medical staff that cared for us and fixed our baby. We're also incredibly grateful for the family and friends who prayed for us, visited us, cared for us and have continued to love us throughout this entire ordeal. We were discharged this afternoon so we're home and trying to recover. The following pictures are from our stay at the hospital.( I'm using the new blogger app and so I'm insure of the order they will be uploaded and I still haven't figured out how to do captions or arrange them. Soooo I'll fix it when I get on the website one day. Until then, enjoy figuring it out ;))
