Wesley's Recovery: Days 1-2
Wesley is doing great. The doctors and nurses expected him to be mostly pain free by the end of today. I thought they were crazy but it turns out they were generous in their assumptions. Wesley received no medication at all today and has done very well. I'm not saying I've withheld meds from him even though he's been in pain. On the contrary. He seems to be in no pain and he is as active and playful as ever. Now I will say that he doesn't like us to get near the incisions, but who would? Our little Wesley seems to be getting back to his old, happy self. Although the sad thing is now he is fully aware of the feelings of pain and being scared. There are times, such as when we had to remove his dressings, that he looked terrified. It was such a sad realization for us. Our little boy has had to grow up a little faster than we expected. Of course we knew that we couldn't keep him from learning those things for long. We just didn't intend on him having to face any situations this soon that would have caused him to learn those feelings. Anyway, he's been doing great and we just feel so blessed and grateful.
